Tied Blouse with Simplicity 8601

4/15/18

I've been on a mini sewing hiatus due to a new part-time job, but I can't complain because my new gig is fun, easy and I'm earning some money! Yay! The downside is I don't have as much time to sew. In the evening, if I'm not working it's been difficult to find the motivation to sew or just taking some photos of my new makes. I am happy to share this recently "me-made" top using Simplicity 8601.
The moment that Simplicity released their new spring season line, I had to grab it. I absolutely love the tie around the waist and all of the versions are so pretty. It was hard to pick which one to sew first. On to my review!

Sewing Pattern Review for Simplicity 8601

Size and View: I cut out view D in size 12.

Fabric: I purchased this Nicole Miller cotton at Hobby Lobby, it was a bit pricey but I had a coupon. This cotton fabric does have a little stretch to it.

Difficulty: Just as the packaging says, this was rather easy to sew up. I ended up using my rolling hem foot for the flounced sleeves. I'm still getting the hang of using this foot, but I do think I saved some time rather than how the direction suggests to sew these sleeves.

Alterations/Changes?: The only pattern alteration that I made was lowering the seam in the front. I lowered this about 2.5 inches, otherwise, you would have totally seen my belly button. I also wish the ties in the front were longer. If I make this top again, I will make this change.

Recommend?: Yes! I would totally make this top again. A chambray version would be cute. Or perhaps a seersucker for the summer. I really hope I get a chance to make a different version again soon.

I styled my top with high waisted skinny jeans and wedge sandals. I think wearing with the high waist suits the higher hem of the top. This top would also look cute with a fitted skirt and also shorts. What are you excited about sewing up for the upcoming warmer months?

  1. Lovely top! I have to try this pattern. I am moving to an area that has a Hobby Lobby and have never shopped at one of their stores; hopefully I can find nice fabric.
