Emerald Green Peplum
1/31/17
I've still been working with knits lately, mainly because they're so easy to wear. Plus I'm getting so comfortable sewing with knits (YAY!). When I'm looking for more knit patterns I like to find tops that are not only easy to wear but have a special something to them. So when I came across this Very Easy Vogue (V9056) pattern late last year, I thought it would be a cute addition to my handmade wardrobe.
Plus I don't think I've owned a peplum top before. I found this pretty emerald green double knit at Joann's. This color has been a fall/winter favorite this season. When cutting the pattern I ended up cutting one size smaller (size 10, view B) than my measurements. I've been finding that most commercial patterns run big, so going a size down has been working out.
Now, I have to be honest, I'm not sure that I love this top. When I tried it on the word "maternity" crossed my mind. (Ugh! No more maternity tops for this gal!) For my photo shoot I decided to wear my high-waisted skinny jeans hoping that they'll hold me in and it won't read "Is she preggers?" Be honest with me, does this look like a maternity top?
I think one thing that might help is that the peplum part of the shirt be lower. The seam hits right under my chest and I think that's the part that's throwing me off.
I'm not sure that I would make this top again. However I'm not going to give up on peplum tops completely. Now I have a place to work from and what to look for in my next peplum top patterns. Any suggestions of other fit details to keep in mind would be greatly appreciated! :)
