Southwest Chic With Butterick 6486

1/8/18

Holy moly!!  When I came here to write this blog post, I realized that I didn't post anything in December!  Well, that just shows how fast that month flew by for me.  Not only was it busy with getting ready for the holidays but my birthday is very close to Christmas and I worked on my birthday dress for most of the month.  I can't wait to show it off here, which will be very soon.  In the mean time, I'm here talk about this pretty top I made back in November.  It's this beautiful terracotta color and a Southwestern style design by Art Gallery Fabrics.
It's a simple design that looks so chic and I think looks perfect with this style top.  Let's get to the pattern, which is Butterick 6486.  I picked out this pattern because I love the bell sleeves and the shape of this flowing top.  The AG rayon was a stand out for this pattern.

Pattern Review for Butterick 6486

Sizing: For this top I used View B and cut out size Small.

Difficulty: Overall I felt this pattern was fairly easy.

Pattern Alterations: I would recommend stay stitching the neck (this was not in the instructions).  I ended up taking out the neck length because the fabric was bunching as I was sewing in the facing.  To give more room in the arms I shortened the seam allowances to a half inch.  I also shortened the sleeves by 1.5 inches. I also did not do the French seams as instructed in the pattern directions, instead I just serged the seam allowances.

Sew Again?:  Hmmm, I might.  Perhaps next fall.  I do like the look of View A with the lace detail.

I wore this top on the Thanksgiving and paired it with faux leather leggings (you can see it on my Instagram page here).  I loved this look!  For my styling here, I decided to make it a little more casual with jeans.  So I think this top would look great for day time or an evening look.
